Duplicate Content issues in SEO
We all know that when we are trying to rank for a specific keyword for our website, duplicate content can be a major pitfall in our efforts. One of the biggest reasons behind this is the way search engines are always after fresh content that is fairly new to offer their searchers. At the end of the day you have to think that why should search engine really care about something that has already been crawled by its spiders? Also, a person that is searching would find no benefit from countless results that contain the same content, would they? None is the only answer you can give to that.
But how do you find out if something is duplicate or not? And because duplicate content is not viewed too well by the search engines, you will want to keep on their good side. Below you can learn how this can be done in Google.
The first thing you should do is search for your site in Google using the URL. Doing this will enable you to view all the pages you have indexed by Google. What you need to do next is click on every one of the links that show up on the search page. If a message appears on the subsequent pages with words to the effect of “to see the most relevant results we have omitted entries that are similar” you will then know that the omitted pages are what Google thinks are duplicate content pages.
After this you should actually click on the link that asks you to repeat the search but with the omitted results included. The pages that Google thinks are duplicates will then appear and therefore allowing you to rectify the matter in any way you see fit.
It is very, very difficult producing a website that is totally and 100% duplicate free, but you can avoid the most obvious things like republishing articles from the article directories or pages from other sites, no matter how relevant you deem them to be.
